Here's one to ponder on: is Uwe Boll as bad a director as many like to make out? Hard to say at this end as we've managed to dance round just about everything he's done. But his 2007 video game adaptation Postal has actually divided opinion, the usual howls of despair balanced by some surprisingly positive reaction, especially in the online community. Starring Zack Ward (Bloodrayne II, Almost Famous, Transformers), J.K Simmons (Thank you for Smoking, Spiderman 3, Juno) and Verne Taylor (The Love Guru, Austin Powers), it all takes lace in the
ironically named city of Paradise, where recently laid-off loser, 'Postal Dude' (Zack Ward), teams up with his uncle, the leader of a local cult, and plans to make some easy money by stealing a peculiar bounty of riches from a nearby amusement park. But it all goes horribly haywire when, somehow, the recently arrived Taliban have a similar focus, but with a far more sinister intent. Chaos ensues, with The Dude finding himself in more work than he had bargained for...
Played as much for laughs as for its almost child-like delight in provoking outrage, Postal has been announced for a UK DVD release on 20th October 2008 by Metrodome at the RRP of £15.99. The disc will have the following extra features:
- Director's Commentary (this should be fun);
- Behind the Scenes;
- Trailer.
