Of Flesh and Blood: The Cinema of Hirokazu Koreeda on Blu-ray in July
4 July 2019
Following on from a very successful Hirokazu Koreeda season at BFI Southbank during April/May and the UK-wide theatrical release of Maborosi and mini-season at selected cinemas, the BFI's new Blu-ray collection Of Flesh and Blood: The Cinema of Hirokazu Koreeda brings together four career-defining titles by the Palme d'Or winning director of Shoplifters and now one of world cinema’s most celebrated auteurs.
The set features his austerely beautiful debut Maborosi (1995) and lyrical fantasy After Life (1998), alongside Nobody Knows (2004) and Still Walking (2008), films that cemented Koreeda's reputation as an heir to Ozu and a chronicler of the modern Japanese family.
Available on Blu-ray for the very first time in the UK, the four films included in Of Flesh and Blood: The Cinema of Hirokazu Koreeda celebrate the richness, diversity, beauty and humanity of the director’s work and are essential viewing for fans of contemporary world cinema.
Special features include a new Q&A with Hirokazu Koreeda, filmed at BFI Southbank in April during the retrospective season and new audio commentaries for all four films by four different Japanese film experts. This Limited Edition collection also includes a 72-page book featuring new writing on the films and in-depth interviews with the director.
Of Flesh and Blood: The Cinema of Hirokazu Koreeda will be released in the UK as a 4-disc Blu-ray box set by the BFI on 22 July 2019 at the RRP of £49.99.
