Eureka announce their July, August and September releases

30 April 2012

Eureka Entertainment announced today their forthcoming releases for the months of July, August and September 2012. Alongside seven new releases in the Masters of Cinema series (including Francis Ford Coppola's Rumble Fish & Cecil B. DeMille's Cleopatra), Eureka have also released details of Giorgio Moroder's reworking of the Fritz Lang's classic, Metropolis.

Managing Director of Eureka, Ron Benson said:

For millions around the world, it is this version of Metropolis – featuring music by Moroder himself and artistes such as Freddie Mercury – which first comes to mind whenever mention is made of the Lang original or, indeed, the iconic imagery and power of silent cinema.

We are also hugely excited to welcome several new directors into The Masters of Cinema Series, spanning classic Hollywood, an American indie, and the very best in European art cinema. In July, we continue our tribute to the great Italian director Pier Paolo Pasolini with two typically provocative films from the 1960s: Hawks and Sparrows, a political comedy starring Italian popular actor Totò and a Marxist talking crow (!), and Pigsty, a portrayal of bestiality, degradation, and bourgeois life circa 1969.

"Pasolini also features in August's worldwide Blu-ray première of the multi-director portmanteau film Rogopag, alongside fellow European art cinema luminaries Roberto Rossellini, Jean-Luc Godard, and Ugo Gregoretti (whose names – 'Ro' 'Go' 'Pa' 'G' – give the film its title). As its subtitle suggests: "Let's Wash Our Brains"!

August also sees the worldwide Blu-ray première of Francis Ford Coppola's cult classic Rumble Fish – including a limited-edition SteelBook package – one of the standout films of the 1980s, starring Matt Dillon, Mickey Rourke, Diane Lane, Dennis Hopper, Nicolas Cage, and Tom Waits.

In September, yet another worldwide Blu-ray première (including a limited-edition SteelBook package), we release Cecil B. DeMille's outrageously epic Hollywood rendering of the life of Egyptian pharaoh queen Cleoptara – reported to be the subject of a new David Fincher film starring Angelina Jolie, set to be the blockbuster of 2013.

From Ancient Egypt to Ancient Greece, September also sees the worldwide Blu-ray première of Pasolini's Oedipus Rex, the Italian director's personal retelling of Sophocles' myth of Oedipus, a tragedy of patricide and incest.

Rounding out our Q3 schedule, we are very pleased to announce a Dual Format (Blu-ray for the first time anywhere in the world, plus a limited-edition SteelBook package) release of Fritz Lang's classic Das Testament des Dr. Mabuse – a film previously available only in our multi-film DVD boxset The Complete Fritz Lang Mabuse."

The full line-up is as follows. Full details will be confirmed nearer to the release date.

Released on 23 July 2012

Hawks and Sparrows [Uccellacci e uccellini] (Masters of Cinema) DVD
Featuring a score by the legendary Ennio Morricone, and starring Italy's popular comic actor Totò, Pasolini's Palme d'or-nominated anarchic comedy depicts the adventures of two men and a talking crow – a picaresque fable that lampoons politics, religion, and the legacy of neorealism. DVD edition from a new HD master.

Pigsy [Porcile] (Masters of Cinema) DVD
With an all-star cast (Jean-Pierre Léaud, Anne Wiazemsky, Franco Citti, Pierre Clémenti, Marco Ferreri), Pasolini aims fire at the corruption of modern life via twin tales of cannibalism and bestiality, anticipating his own SALO in its concern with bourgeois degradation. DVD edition from a new HD master.

Giorgio Moroder presents: Metropolis DVD & DVD SteelBook
The cult reworking of Fritz Lang's Metropolis, available for the very first time on DVD in the UK – a bizarre and beautiful retro-futurist timepiece which continues to speak of the past, present, and future.

Released on 27 August 2012

Rumble Fish (Masters Of Cinema) Blu-ray and Blu-ray Steelbook
Adapted from the S.E. Hinton novel, and directed by Francis Ford Coppola, this cult classic of teen angst tells the tale of street hoodlum Rusty James and his older brother The Motorcycle Boy, starring Matt Dillon, Mickey Rourke, Diane Lane, Dennis Hopper, Nicolas Cage, and Tom Waits, with a soundtrack by Stewart Copeland of the band The Police. First time anywhere in the world on Blu-ray; limited-edition Blu-ray and limited-edition SteelBook packaging options.

RoGoPaG (Masters of Cinema) dual format
Bringing together four greats of European art cinema – Roberto Rossellini, Jean-Luc Godard, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Ugo Gregoretti – this celebrated portmanteau collection of shorts lives up to its subtitle: "Let's Wash Our Brains"! Dual Format edition from a new HD master; first time anywhere in the world on Blu-ray.

Released on 24 September 2012

Cleopatra (Masters of Cinema) dual format

Oedipus Rex [Epido Re] dual format

Dual Format edition from a new HD master; first time anywhere in the world on Blu-ray.

Das Testament des Dr. Mabuse [The Testament of Dr. Mabuse] dual format
