Third Window Films has announced the 27 October 2025 release of Hayashi Kaizō’s offbeat trilogy in which Nagase Masatoshi stars as Yokohama private eye Maiku Hama—a Japanese approximation of Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer – in The Most Terrible Time in My Life (1994), The Stairway to the Distant Past (1995) and The Trap (1996).
In The Most Terrible Time in My Life he gets embroiled in the disappearance of a Taiwanese immigrant’s brother, getting caught in the crosshairs of a gang war. In the second film The Stairway to the Distant Past he goes after a “Man in White” reigning over the embattled riverfront of Yokohama. The ominous final chapter The Trap straddles the line of psychological horror as a series of drug-fueled murders instill fear in Yokohama.
Featuring 30th Anniversary 4K remasters of the three films, this release will be a Limited Edition digipack set (2000 copies) featuring a booklet by Josh Slater-Williams.
