Kelly Reichardt's Wendy and Lucy on Second Run Blu-ray in September

8 August 2025

Second Run has announced the September Blu-ray release of Wendy and Lucy, a moving and acutely observed 2008 drama from Kelly Reichardt, the acclaimed director of Meek's Cutoff, First Cow, and the forthcoming The Mastermind.

Homeless Wendy is driving with her dog Lucy to Alaska, in hopes of a summer job in a cannery. When her car breaks down en route, the thin fabric of their situation comes apart, and Wendy is faced with a series of increasingly dire challenges.

Reichardt's understated approach and Michelle Williams’ stunning, heartbreaking performance paints a vivid portrait of a young woman’s struggle to survive in a world indifferent to her plight. Simple and direct, Wendy and Lucy is a moving meditation on resilience and the often-overlooked plight of those on the fringes of society.
