French body horror Baby Blood on UHD and Blu-ray in October

29 July 2025

StudioCanal has announced the UK debut of the underrated 1990 body horror Baby Blood, which is being released as part of StudioCanal’s Cult Classics range on UHD and Blu-ray in October featuring a beautiful blood-drenched 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative and a host of extras and collectable art cards.

Yanka (Emmanuelle Escourrou) works for a traveling circus with her abusive husband. When the circus’ new leopard suffers a sudden violent death, a parasitic creature bursts out of the animal’s body and crawls up into Yanka’s uterus. The parasite demands that Yanka brings it blood, so that it can feed and grow. Soon, Yanka is a killer on the run as she hunts down victims for her new ‘baby’.

With incredible special effects and boundary-pushing gore, Baby Blood is a bonkers mix of early Peter Jackson-style extreme splatter, Frank Henenlotter’s Brain Damage, and Cronenbergian body horror – and features a superb, uncompromising lead performance from Emmanuelle Escourrou, that recalls the sensuousness of Beatrice Dalle in Betty Blue and the intensity of Isabelle Adjani in Possession. Written and directed by Alain Robak, and also starring prolific French star Christian Sinniger (District 13: Ultimatum), the film has never before been released in the UK, making this a grisly treat for horror fans, who are in for a hell of a ride.
