A worried father attempts to uncover a controversial psychologist's unconventional therapy techniques on his institutionalised wife, amidst a series of horrific murders that seem to be targeting those closest to him.

What we said: "It delivers on atmospheric menace and tension, the boldness of its premise, and Cronenberg's fascination with body mutation and destruction. And as a powerful, troubling treatise on the suffering that can result from failed relationships, both to the participants and children caught in the middle, it still packs a serious punch."

A scientist recruits a drifter with extraordinary telepathic ability to hunt down an equally powerful ’scanner’ who, together with others of their kind, is hellbent on taking over the world.

What we said: "Scanners is classic early Cronenberg, a smart, tightly paced and visceral slice of mind-and-body horror that has stood the test of time well, and survives Stephen Lack's unanimated delivery and a few plot hiccups caused by on-the-fly scriptwriting by way of Cronenberg's handling and some very fine work from the supporting players... Scanners remains a terrific horror/sf crossover, and an essential slice of Cronenberg cinematic meat."
