Isao Yukisada's award-winning Go on Blu-ray and Digital in May
4 May 2023
Third Window Films has announced the world Blu-ray debut of Isao Yukisada's classic Go, Japan's official submission for the 'Best Foreign Language Film' category of the 74th Academy Awards in 2002.
Sugihara (Yosuke Kubozuka) feels more like a misfit than most high school students, being the son of a Japanese mother (Shinobu Otake) and a North Korean father (Tsutomu Yamazaki). Changing schools does not help much, as he is simply taunted by a different group of kids. Fortunately, his father has given him boxing lessons to keep the bullies at bay. When Sugihara falls for the popular Sakurai (Kou Shibasaki) and she seems interested in him, he sees the possibility of being accepted.
Based on the award winning novel by Kazuki Kaneshiro and described by Jaspoer Sharp on the Midnight Eye website as "Undeniably affecting, and as such, one of the most outstandingly compelling and thought-provoking films of its year," Go was the winner of both the Best Film and Best Actor (Yosuke Kubozuka) awards at the Marrakech International Film Festival, and the FIPRESCI Prize at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Go will be released on Blu-ray and Digital platforms on 22 May 2023 by Third Window Films at the RRP of £24.99, which is discounted to £17.99 if you pre-order at the Terracotta Store.
