Six-film Blu-ray collection Toshiaki Toyoda: 2005-2021 in October

Third Window Films has announced the October release of a 6-film Blu-ray box set of films from Japanese director, Toshiaki Toyoda, a former chess prodigy who mved into filmmaking and made his directorial debut in 1999 with Pornostar [Poruno sutâ], also known in the West as Tokyo Rampage.

Toshiaki Toyoda: 2005-2021 is a 3-disc digipack Blu-ray set of six films covers Toyoda's work from 2005 to 2021 that will be released in the UK on 18 October 2021 at the RRP of £59.99. None of the films in the release have received a physical release outside of Japan before. The set is limited to just 2,000 copies.


DISC 1

HAGING GARDEN 空中庭園  (2005)
A family struggling to live together even with the outrageous behaviors from each family members.

MONSTERS CLUB モンスターズクラブ MONSUTÂZU KURABU  (2011)
Having abandoned modern civilization, Ryoichi lives an isolated, self-sufficient life on a snow-covered mountain and sends mail bombs to the CEOs of corporations and TV networks. One day, he encounters a mysterious creature in the forest. That night, his older brother, who had committed suicide, appears before him at his cabin. The apparition takes Ryoichi beyond a door, where Ryoichi learns the truth about his family.

 

WOLF'S CALLING 狼煙が呼ぶ (2019)
A girl finds an old handgun in her attic and the symbolic object conjures a mystical scene of samurai gathering within the moss-grown location of Kasosan Shrine in Tochigi Prefecture.

 

THE DAY OF DESTRUCTION 破壊の日 (2020)
Seven years ago, a mysterious monster was found deep in a rural coal mine. Since then, rumors of a plague spread through the small town, and people experience an unexplainable mental illness.

 

GO SEPPUKU YOURSELVES 全員切腹 (2021)
Completing Toshiaki Toyoda's politically urgent Resurrection Trilogy following Wolf's Calling and The Day of Destruction, this short film follows a man tasked with assisting in the ritual suicide of a samurai who won't die without condemning the corrupt powers that be.

DISC 3

I'M FLASH! (2012)
A cult leader is as cynical as the next and picks up a loose woman at a bar one night. This is followed by a car accident, which sends the woman into a coma. Anticipating attempts on the cult leader's life his assistant hires three thugs as bodyguards to the man. The cultist is holed up at his mansion in Okinawa and plots a surprise to his family and followers.
