Carve Her Name with Pride & The Long Dark Hall on DVD in September

6 September 2016

The latest two titles in Network's ongoing 'The British Film' collection have been announced for September DVD release: Carve Her Name With Pride, a war drama starring Virginia McKenna and directed by Lewis Gilbert; and The Long Dark Hall, a thriller based on the crime novel by Edgar Lustgarten starring the award-winning Rex Harrison.

Carve Her Name with Pride

Carve Her Name with Pride (1958)

Following her recruitment by the Special Operations Executive, Violette Szabo volunteers to be parachuted into occupied France to re-organise a shattered resistance group. Though successful in destabilising German reinforcements for the battles raging on the Normandy front, Violette knows only too well that the life expectancy of an undercover operative can usually be measured in weeks and months.

Virginia McKenna (Born Free) gives a moving, BAFTA-nominated performance as Violette Szabo, one of the Second World War's most revered heroines. The dramatic story of Violette’s resistance work, imprisonment and ultimate fate, Carve Her Name with Pride stands as a tribute to the secret agent who would be posthumously awarded the George Cross for her vital and courageous role in the fight against Nazism.

Directed by the Oscar-nominated Lewis Gilbert (Alfie) and co-starring Paul Scofield (A Man For All Seasons) and Jack Warner (The Ladykillers), this classic feature is presented in a brand-new transfer from the original film elements in its original theatrical aspect ratio.

Carve Her Name With Pride will be released on UK DVD on 12th September 2016 at the RRP of £9.99, courtesy of Network’s ‘The British Film’ collection.

The Long Dark Hall

The Long Dark Hall (1951)

When Arthur Groome finds his girlfriend murdered at her Earls Court flat he is stricken with grief and fear. When the police question him about the crime, Arthur, a married man, denies all knowledge of the girl. Soon, however, he finds himself charged with murder – and inexorably drawn towards the gallows.

The Long Dark Hall is the disquieting story of obsession and manipulation unfolds in a critically acclaimed thriller based on a novel by crime writer Edgar Lustgarten (Scotland Yard, The Man Who Wouldn’t Talk). Oscar and Golden Globe winner Rex Harrison (My Fair Lady, Doctor Dolittle) plays a man accused of murdering his mistress, with Lilli Palmer (But Not For Me, Body and Soul) as the woman who stands by her husband as he fights for his life in the courtroom.

The Long Dark Hall will be released on UK DVD on 12th September 2016 at the RRP of £9.99, courtesy of Network’s ‘The British Film’ collection.
