The Iron Maiden and Verdict of the Sea on DVD in February

15 February 2016

The latest two titles in Network's 'The British Film' collection have been announced for UK DVD release this month: The Iron Maiden, a comedy from 1962 starring Michael Craig and Anne Helm; and Verdict of the Sea, a crime adventure starring silent era idol John Stuart.

The Iron Maiden (1962)

Aviation designer Jack Hopkins is notably absent from his creation's latest test flight. He is, in fact, many miles away indulging his greatest passion: an old showman's traction engine called The Iron Maiden! Jack has his heart set on entering the prestigious Annual Steam Rally at Woburn Abbey, but hadn't reckoned on some fierce and devious opposition!

Oscar-nominee Michael Craig (The Angry Silence) is the engineering genius whose hobby spells trouble for boss Cecil Parker (The Lady Vanishes), with Alan Hale Jr. (Gilligan’s Island) as the tycoon who eventually comes to share his passion in this stellar comedy from Carry On's Gerald Thomas.

Presented here in a brand-new transfer from the original film elements in its original theatrical aspect ratio, The Iron Maiden will be eleased on DVD on 22nd February 2016 at the RRP of £9.99, courtesy of Network’s ‘The British Film’ collection.

Verdict of the Sea (1932)

When 'Gentleman' Burton boards the Capri his aura of mystery makes the crew curious about his origins – and makes him especially attractive to the Captain's daughter, but he little realises the danger that is to unfold when the Captain conceals diamonds on board as a favour.

A silent-era idol whose enormous popularity was undiminished by the advent of sound, John Stuart (Superman) stars as a former doctor who meets with unexpected adventure when he joins the crew of a tramp steamer in this rare early British talkie.

Featured here in a brand-new transfer from the original film elements, in its as-exhibited theatrical aspect ratio, Verdict of the Sea will be released on DVD on 22nd February 2016 at the RRP of £9.99, courtesy of Network’s ‘The British Film’ collection.
