Todd Haynes' acclaimed Carol on Blu-ray, DVD and digital HD in March
3 February 2015
The BAFTA nominated Carol, adapted from Patricia Highsmith’s novel, The Price of Salt, tells the story of two women who boldly defy the social conformities of early 1950’s America, with life changing consequences. Directed by Todd Haynes (I’m Not There, Far From Heaven), Carol stars BAFTA and Academy Award Winner Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine, Elizabeth), BAFTA and Academy Award Nominee Rooney Mara (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network) and will be released onto home entertainment by StudioCanal in March.
Set against the backdrop of New York City, the film follows beautiful and compelling housewife Carol (Cate Blanchett), trapped in a loveless marriage to husband Harge (Kyle Chandler). Seeking passion and adventure, Carol is immediately enticed on meeting the demure Therese (Rooney Mara), but will a love affair be beyond their reach? What follows is an intimate portrayal of love, a tender romantic drama that finds two women at a crossroads, forcing Carol to make one of the most difficult decisions of her life.
With a screenplay by Phyllis Nagy (Mrs. Harris, the stage adaptation of The Talented Mr. Ripley) and beautifully shot on Super 16mm by cinematographer Edward Lachman (I’m Not There, Erin Brockovich), Carol’s production team captures Highsmith’s depiction of 1950’s New York, painting a visually honest picture of society in the midst of change. Production designers Judy Becker (American Hustle, Brokeback Mountain) and Heather Loeffler (Joy, Silver Linings Playbook), and costume designer Sandy Powell (Cinderella, Shakespeare in Love) were also significant in conveying the essence of this time period and transporting the story from the page to the screen.
Carol premiered to critical acclaim at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, where Mara won Best Actress and has continued to garner a great deal of global awards attention.
Carol will be released on UK Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD on 21st March 2015 by StudioCanal at the RRP of£24.99 for the Blu-ray and £19.99 for the DVD.
