Following the success of the first season, released last September, Romanzo Criminale has gone on to become one of Criminale Italia’s most acclaimed and thrilling crime shows. The second and final part of the epic story continues its hard edged and violent look at the criminal underworld of Rome set between the 1970s and the 1990s. The highly anticipated season two will be released on DVD 1st February and focuses on the rise of the Banda Magliata gang during the 80s and 90s following on from the 70s-set season one.
A criminal known as ‘Libanese’ has a dream: to conquer the underworld of Rome. To carry out this unprecedented feat he puts together a ruthless and highly organized gang. Their progress and changes in leadership take place over twenty-five years, from the 1970's into the '90's, and are inseparably intertwined with the dark history of modern Italy: terrorism, kidnappings and corruption at the highest levels of government.
Throughout these years Police Lieutenant Scialoja sticks to the gang's trail, trying both to bring them to justice and to win the heart of Dandi's girlfriend Patrizia. It’s now 1981 and the Rome crew are in disarray: Libanese is in the morgue, full of holes, which sparks a race to find the killers and exact revenge before the police can make an arrests. It also creates a power vacuum with Freddo and Dandi in the frame to be the new boss.
Romanzo Criminale sits up there with the acclaimed Naples-set crime saga Gommorah, which also sees its second series released later this year. Criminale Italia have recently released the Italian crime dramas Inspector De Luca and Inspector Nardone and will continue to house further quality international crime thrillers throughout the year.
