British double The Teckman Mystery and Offbeat on DVD in January

12 January 2016

As the new year gets under way, Network's 'The British Film' project continues with a further two DVD titles, both of them slated for a late January release: The Teckman Mystery, a Brit-noir Cold War thriller starring Margaret Leighton and John Justin; and Offbeat an early 60s suspense thriller starring William Sylvester.

The Teckman Mystery (1954)

Crime novelist Philip Chance is commissioned by his publisher to write the biography of Martin Teckman, a young airman who crashed and died whilst testing a new plane. From the moment he arrives home, however, Chance is beset by a series of 'accidents' – leaving him in no doubt that there are people who do not want Teckman's past investigated.

Oscar-nominee Margaret Leighton (The Go-Between), John Justin (The Thief Of Bagdad), Roland Culver (Thunderball) and Michael Medwin (Scrooge) star in this Brit-noir Cold War thriller involving another intriguing case for Philip Chance, the fictional crime writer created by phenomenally successful novelist Francis Durbridge (Paul Temple).

Co-scripted by Durbridge and directed by the award-winning Wendy Toye (On The Twelfth Day…), The Teckman Mystery is featured here in a brand-new transfer from the original film elements, with its as-exhibited theatrical aspect ratio, and will be released on UK DVD on 25th January 2016 at the RRP of £9.99, courtesy of Network’s ‘The British Film’ collection.

Offbeat (1961)

Equipped with the name and background of a former crook, an MI5 agent on undercover assignment for Scotland Yard coolly carries out a bank robbery to establish his criminal bona fides. His mission is to infiltrate the world of the new breed of criminals whose skilfully planned robberies outwit the Yard – a mission fraught with intrigue and danger.

William Sylvester (2001: A Space Odyssey, Gorgo) heads up the cast of this aptly titled early-60s suspense thriller featuring an MI5 man entrusted with a high-tension undercover assignment.

Co-starring legendary Swedish screen siren Mai Zetterling (The Witches, Torment) and iconic character player John Meillon (Walkabout, Crocodile Dundee), Offbeat is a stylish, compelling drama made available here in a brand-new transfer from the original film elements, in its as-exhibited theatrical aspect ratio.

Offbeat will be released on UK DVD on 25th January 2016 at the RRP of £9.99, courtesy of Network’s ‘The British Film’ collection.
