Arrow films have announced the Blu-ray, DVD & Download release of the modern-day Italian gangster epic Gomorrah in October. The series is currently airing on Sky Atlantic.
Adapted from Robert Saviano’s groundbreaking book exposing the inner-workings of the Neapolitan mafia (known as the Comorra), the 12-part television series follows Matteo Garrone’s feature film of the same name, which was awarded the prestigious Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. Following the book’s publication, Saviano was forced into hiding after receiving death-threats from mafia godfathers. He was inspired to write the exposé when his father, a doctor, was attacked for attempting to treat one of the mob’s victims.
Directed by Stefano Sollima (Romanzo Criminale) and shot on location in Naples and Campania, Gomorrah paints a brutal portrait of Neapolitan crime organisation the Camorra, as seen through the eyes of Ciro Di Marzo, the up-and-coming right hand man of clan godfather, Pietro Savastano. With Pietro locked up in solitary confinement, and facing an ever-increasing sentence, Ciro is left to do his boss’ dirty work, running the empire alongside the dysfunctional Savastano family.
Having already been sold to over 50 territories worldwide (including the US courtesy of The Weinstein Company), Gomorrah sets a new benchmark for quality Italian crime drama and takes Saviano’s message to entirely new global audience.
Such is the strength of the Italian crime television movement that Arrow Films have launched Criminale Italia, an exciting new subsidiary of their Nordic Noir label. Alongside Gomorrah, the label will include the acclaimed Inspector De Luca (as seen on BBC Four), Fog & Crimes and The Octopus.
Gomorrah will be released on UK DVD, Blu-ray and Download on 27th October 2014 by Arrow Films at the RRP of £29.99 for the DVD and £34.99 for the Blu-ray.
No extra features have been listed.
