UK Poster released for Mike Leigh's Mr. Turner, in cinemas 31st October

23 July 2014

Entertainment One UK Ltd. has shown the official UK poster for Mike Leigh’s Mr. Turner, which is released in UK cinemas on 31st October 2014.

Well received at Cannes, Mr. Turner explores the last quarter century of the great if eccentric British painter J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851).

Profoundly affected by the death of his father, loved by a housekeeper he takes for granted and occasionally exploits sexually, he forms a close relationship with a seaside landlady with whom he eventually lives incognito in Chelsea, where he dies.

Throughout this, he travels, paints, stays with the country aristocracy, visits brothels, is a popular if anarchic member of the Royal Academy of Arts, has himself strapped to the mast of a ship so that he can paint a snowstorm, and is both celebrated and reviled by the public and by royalty.

Timothy Spall won Best Actor at Cannes for his performance as Turner, while cinematographer Dick Pope won the Vulcain Prize for the Technical Artist "For bringing to light the works of Turner in the movie." the film was also nominated for the Palme D'Or.

"Leigh has made a remarkable, intelligent and inspired evocation of the artist’s life, warts, genius and all." - Eye for Film.
