Serpico on Blu-ray and Blu-ray Steelbook in February from Masters of Cinema

6 December 2013

Those lovely people at Eureka! Entertainment have announced the release of Serpico, one of the most famous films of the 1970s American cinema and a major commercial success. It stars Al Pacino (but you knew this, didn't you?) who received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, while screenwriters Waldo Salt and Norman Wexler were nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. Directed by the legendary Sidney Lumet (12 Angry Men, Dog Day Afternoon, Murder on the Orient Express, Prince of the City, and countless other classics), Serpico will be released in February in a Blu-ray and Limited Edition Blu-ray SteelBook editions as part of Eureka! Entertainment's award-winning The Masters of Cinema Series.

A plainclothes street patrolman, Frank Serpico (Pacino) might be the best cop in New York, but his unwillingness to play dirty and give into police corruption of drugs, violence, and kickbacks his colleagues indulge in every day. When he decides to expose those around him, Frank finds himself a target, not just to the city's criminals, but his own peers.

Shot on location and based on real events, Serpico captures the grit of New York in a way no film has rivalled, not just for its toned down realism, but also the bleakness Lumet portrays within his hometown city with brutal cynicism with frank immediacy.

Serpico will be released for the first time on UK Blu-ray on 24th February 2014 by Eureka! Entertainment as part of the Masters of Cinema series at the RRP of £15.99 for the regular Blu-ray and £24.99 for the Limited Edition Steelbook.

Featuring a gorgeous restored 1080p transfer on the film, the disc will have the following extra features:

  • Original theatrical trailer

  • Video documentary Serpico: Reel to Real

  • Video documentary Inside Serpico

  • Video piece Serpico: Favorite Moments

  • More to be revealed closer to release!

  • 36-page full colour booklet featuring a new and exclusive essay by critic and author of Al Pacino: Anatomy of an Actor, Karina Longworth; rare archival imagery, and more!
