Two crime scene cleaners discover a mythical tailed, female creature in a concealed cellar. She never utters a word, unable to tell her story, but the pieces of the puzzle soon come together; she’s been held captive for decades for reasons soon to surface.
Thale is based on a mythical character in Nordic folklore called the "huldra". According to the myth, a huldra is a beautiful creature with female attributes living deep in the woods. It is said that it seduces men that work in the woods by humming a beautiful song, and they never return to their village.
The second feature from Norwegian director Aleksander Nordaas, Thale stars Silje Reinåmo (Totally True Love), Erlend Nervold and Jon Sigve Skard (both of whom also starred in Nordass's first feature Sirkel). There's not too many English language reviews out there yet, and opinions have varied, being described as "superb" by John Townsend at HorrorNews.net, but dismissed as "a mediocre, yawn-worthy disappointment" by Serena Whitney over at Dread Central. We'll have to wait and see.
Thale will be released on UK DVD on 25th March 2013 by Metrodome Distribution at the RRP of £15.99.
Special features? It's Metrodome, so probably not. There's certainly nothing detailed on the press release.
