When a rich countess is murdered, a bitter conflict ensues to determine who'll inherit her estate, and you can bet that the body count is going to rise rapidly in the process as the plot twists spin wildly out of control. The fight to gain control of the countess' fortune quickly turns into a full-on murder spree as numerous victims are in turn mangled, hung, speared, stabbed, strangled, hacked with a machete and decapitated. Before the matter is finally decided, an unlucky 13 corpses will be left floating in a gruesome Bay of Blood.
Directed by Italian horror god Mario Bava (Blood And Black Lace; Black Sunday; Hatchet For The Honeymoon), starring Bond Girl and former Miss France, Claudine Auger (Thunderball), boasting special makeup effects by three-time Oscar winner Carlo Rambaldi (Alien; Close Encounters Of The Third Kind; King Kong) and featuring second unit footage reportedly shot by Roberto Rossellini, A Bay Of Blood was named in 2005 by Total Film magazine as one of the 50 greatest horror films of all time. Considered by many to be Bava's most influential film (and his own personal favourite of all the films he made), A Bay Of Blood (Reazione a catena) is regarded by many as the grandfather of the modern-day slasher movie.
