Adapted from the novel L'Incident by French author Christian Gailly, Wild Grass (Les herbes folles) is the latest film from Alain Resnais, and was acclaimed as one of the most enjoyable and audatious films at last year's Cannes Film Festival, playfully examines the complications that ensue from the discovery that Georges (André Dussolier) of Marguerite's (Sabine Azéma) stolen purse. This opens up the possibility for both Georges and Marguerite of rushing into the irrational, of just following their impulses where ever they may lead with no heed to the consequences, which eventually builds to a much discussed surprise ending.
The Multi-layed story of the desire to hold off age, of self-doubt, of the sheer odity of life, is told by a sometimes unreliable off-screen narrator (Eduord Baer), and is filled with playful touches and humour. Wild Grass features fine cinematography by Eric Gaultier (The Motorcycle Diaries, Kings and Queen, Into the Wild), and involving performances from Renais regulars André Dussolier and Sabine Azéma, plus newcomers to the director's work Emmanuelle Devos and Mathieu Amalric.
Wild Grass will be released on UK DVD on 15th November 2010 by New Wave Films at the RRP of £15.99. Extra features include a special documentary and the theatrical trailer.
