Acclaimed Argentinean filmmaker Lucrecia Martel steps back behind the camera for her third feature film with a mysterious and intriguing tale of bourgeois Verónica (Maria Onetto) who when driving alone on a dirt road, becomes distracted and runs over something. In the days that follow, she becomes dazed and emotionally disconnected from the people and events in her life and obsessed with the possibility that she may have killed someone.
The Headless Woman / La mujer sin cabeza is the third feature from Lucrecia Martel, whose previous films The Swamp / La ciénaga (2001) and The Holy Girl / La niña santa (2004) both met with considerable acclaim. In some respects the Headless Woman is her most challenging and least accessible film, its unbroken focus on Verónica's mindset proving a haunting experience for some, but for others has proved unengaging and ultimately heavy going. There was certainly an audience split at our cinema screening. You can judge for yourself when the film is released on UK DVD on 12th July 2010 by New Wave Films at the RRP of £19.99. Presented in anamorphic widescreen with Dolby 2.0 and 5.1 Spanish sountracks, the only extra is a trailer. |
