Heimat and Heimat 2 on DVD in June

4 May 2010

Five years in the making, Heimat is an epic tale of a family's life in a small German village told against a backdrop of the country's turbulent history from 1919 to 1982. This 15-hour tour de force begins in the aftermath of the First World War, and centres on Maria Simon and her growing family in their rural community. It follows them through the depression, the rise and fall of Hitler and the Second World War and the subsequent decades. Through troubled times life in the village goes on and the values and aspirations of the people at its heart are wonderfully brought to life.

This gripping saga appeared in sixth place in BBC2s 40 Birthday Celebration Poll of its greatest programmes and 10th in Channel 4's 50 Greatest TV Dramas. Heimat: A Chronicle Of Germany has captivated audiences all over the world and will continue to be hailed as one of television's most rewarding and unforgettable experiences.

In the enthralling follow up Heimat 2: Chronicle Of A Generation we travel back to 1960 to follow Maria's son who has left the village to follow his dream to study music in Munich. During this era-defining decade of cultural, social and political revolution Hermann finds love and friendship among a Bohemian collection of musicians, filmmakers and writers that have become part of his new life. With Heimat 2: Chronicle Of A Generation he achieved the seemingly impossible, a second Heimat more than 25 hours long, to equal the monumental feat of the original, again gripping audiences the world over.

Heimat: A Chronicle Of Germany and Heimat 2: Chronicle Of A Generation will be released on UK DVD individually as six-disc and seven disc box sets on 21st June 2010 by Second Sight at the RRP of £69.99 each.
