Condemned to six years in prison, Malik El Djebena cannot read nor write. Arriving at the jail entirely alone, he appears younger and more fragile than the other convicts. He is 19 years old. Cornered by the leader of the Corsican gang who rules the prison, he is given a number of "missions" to carry out, toughening him up and gaining the gang leader's confidence in the process. But Malik is brave and a fast learner, daring to secretly develop his own plans...
The latest film from Jacques Audiard, director of the impressive The Beat That My Heart Skipped, A Prophet (Un prophète) is a dark, harrowing, but immaculately handled prison movie, a huge award-winner in its native France (it won nine César awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Writing and Best Actor and has been widely acclaimed as one of the finest prison movies in decades.
A Prophet will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on 7th June 2010 by Optimum Home Entertainment at the RRP of £19.99 for the DVD and £24.99 for the Blu-ray. Both will have the following extras:
