Dogora (full title Dogora - Ouvrons les yeux) is 2004 documentary from Patrice Leconte, the Oscar-nominated and César and BAFTA award winning director of Monsieur Hire (1989), Le mari de la coiffeuse (The Hairdresser's Husband, 1990), Tandem (1987), Ridicule (1996), Confidences trop intimes (Intimate Strangers, 2004) and Mon meilleur ami (My Best Friend, 2006), three of which (groan) are current being remade by Hollywood studios. We can hardly wait.
His 2004 documentary Dogora was the result of his desire to make a documentary about Cambodia with, he says, "neither actors nor a script, without dialogue, without a word," being instead driven by music and imagery in a manner that recalls, as several observers have noted, Ron Frick's 1992 Baraka (the three syllable title is surely a coincidence) and Godfrey Reggio's 1982 Koyaanisqatsi. "In a career that has taken him from the heights of French cinema to the honors of the Academy Awards, Leconte has always followed his own remarkable muse," says Carl Daft, co-founder and CEO of Severin Films, who are releasing Dogora on DVD and Blu-ray in April. "Monsieur Leconte considers DOGORA to be his most personal work yet, and we are proud to continue our relationship with him by bringing this unique feature to Blu-ray and DVD for the first time ever in America."
Dogora will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in the US by Severin Films on 27th April 2010 at the SRP of $24.95 for the DVD and $29.95 for the Blu-ray. The symphony/choir score by French composer Etienne Perruchon is presented in 5.1 DTS Surround Sound and both discs include part three of an exclusive career-spanning interview with Leconte. The first two parts of the interview appear on Severin's previous DVD releases of Leconte's The Hairdresser's Husband and Perfume of Yvonne (Le parfum d'Yvonne, 1994).
We don't yet have regional coding details for the Blu-ray, but hope to update that in the not too distant future.
UPDATE: The release date has been changed to 18th May 2010. |
