Boy A on DVD in February

14 January 2010

Boy A is the story of Jack, a young ex-con recently released from prison after serving time for a murder he committed as a child. Given a new life and new identity, with the help of parole officer and father-figure Terry he attempts to readjust to the world outside and restart a life which never really got going. But forces from the past are constantly upon him and the tabloid press and Terry's real son are not about to let things lie.

Adapted by Mark O'Rowe from the novel by Jonathan Trigell and directed by John Crowley (Intermission, Is Anybody There?), Boy A inevitably draws parallels with the 1993 murder of Jamie Bulger by 10-year-olds Jon Venables and Robert Thompson, who were referred to on their arrest as Child A and Child B until their names were formally released, but is not based directly on it. A powerful, challenging and inevitably downbeat study of sin and redemption, described by DVD Verdict as "A gut-wrencher of a drama," and "almost an exercise in viewer cruelty."

Boy A will be released on UK DVD by Optimum Releasing on 8 February 2010 at a yet to be confirmed RRP. The only listed extra is an interview with director John Cowley.
