Boogie on DVD in November

30 September 2009

The compelling and intimately charged story of Bogdan, or ‘Boogie' as he is known to old high-school friends (Dragos Bucur), takes place on the shores of the Black Sea where Bogdan is holidaying with his young family. A chance encounter with friends from his wilder, more promiscuous, youth leads to wine-fuelled trips down memory lane that put him at frictional odds with his wife, Smaranda (Anamaria Marinca – 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days).

From acclaimed Romanian director Radu Muntean, Boogie is a gentle meditation of a young man's reminisces on his wilder youth from the jaded viewpoint of his married adult life. After a highly acclaimed theatrical release, Boogie is making its way to DVD on 2 November 2009, courtesy of Dogwoof. This anticipated DVD release will also include a bonus second disc containing Muntean's outstanding film, The Paper Will Be Blue, a wry docudrama focussing on the immediate aftermath of fall of Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu.

In what turns out to be an ill-fated attempt to thwart the restrictions of domestic duty and recapture lost time, Boogie joins his friends for a hedonistic night out on the town. A beautifully observed and refreshingly unsympathetic character study, Boogie offers an intimate meditation on relationships and identity that is rarely seen in such stark and awkwardly relatable detail.

From acclaimed Romanian director Radu Muntean, Boogie is a gentle meditation of a young man's reminisces on his wilder youth from the jaded viewpoint of his married adult life. After a highly acclaimed theatrical release, Boogie is making its way to DVD on 2nd November 2009 at the RRP of £14.99, courtesy of Dogwoof. This anticipated DVD release will also include a bonus second disc containing Muntean's outstanding film, The Paper Will Be Blue, a wry docudrama focussing on the immediate aftermath of fall of Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu.

The subject matter of Muntean's third feature, The Paper Will Be Blue, is perhaps more typical of contemporary Romanian cinema, using fictional characters to bear witness aftermath of the revolution. Following one perplexed militia's attempts to find out who has taken control of Bucharest in the immediate hours following Ceausescu's demise, The Paper Will Be Blue offers a ground zero insight into the confusion of the times for regular people.
