Fermat's Room on DVD in September

20 August 2009

Described by Variety as "a locked-room teaser that handles its limited dramatic permutations with flair, skill and a nicely contempo air," Fermat's Room (La habitación de Fermat) revolves around four supposed strangers and expert mathematicians who have been invited by the unknown and mysterious Fermat to a prestigious gathering set in a comfortable and ambient room within an isolated house. With the door firmly shut behind them, they are sent a variety of enigmas via a PDA to solve and test their intelligence. However, it is not long until they discover they are locked in and that providing incorrect answers to the problems causes the walls to move inwards, shrinking the room and threatening to crush all inside. With no obvious way out and the riddles becoming progressively demanding and more difficult to solve, they realise the highly likely probability of fatal consequences.

First time feature directors Luis Piedrahita and Rodrigo Sopeña utilise the renowned theoretical thinking of mathematics to deliver a tension filled film that combines with unremitting mystery and an unanticipated twist, a work that has drawn comparisons with the likes of Cube and Saw and was praised by Eye for Film as "taut, thrilling and entertainingly three-dimensional despite the fact that almost all the action takes place within just four walls."

Fermat's Room will be released on UK DVD by Revolver Entertainment on 7th September 2009 at the RRP of £14.99. Special Features include:

  • Casting featurette;
  • Making-of featurette;
  • Deleted scenes;
  • 3-D effect scenes;
  • The shooting of three scenes and developed scenes.
