It's actually surprising that title trick used in the titling of Se7en – which is designed to read "Seven" but should actually be pronounced "Sesevenen" – hasn't cropped up more often, but has now made a reappearance in the ineligantly titled 7eventy 5ive, which technically should be pronounced "Seveneventy Fiveive" if you want to be accurate about these things. But we're not so much in serial killer as slasher movie territory, a sub-genre that stubbornly refuses to die but is in serious need to a cult classic in the making to revive it. Could this be it? Probably not...
College pranks are usually fun. Usually they don't involve a horrific death for the pranksters. In 7eventy 5ive however, the members of 'The Crew' are faced with that terrifying reality, and only a hardened cop (Rutger Hauer –Blade Runner, The Hitcher) can race against time to help them survive.
The rules of '75' are simple: prank call a random person and scare the hell out of them for 75 seconds. If the person laughs or hangs up you lose. Whoever has the best 'scare' wins. For a group of university students though, the modern version of 75 has gone beyond a harmless prank when someone calls the wrong person. Stranded miles away from the nearest city, the body count begins to rise.
Featuring an cast of established veterans like Hauer, and up and comers such as Gwendoline Yeo (Desperate Housewives, X Men) and Jud Taylor (Charlie Wilson's War, That 70's Show) 7eventy 5ive is heavy on brutal deaths, bloody splatter and apparently featuring a shocking final twist – those well versed in the genre will reserve judgement on that one for now.
7eventy 5ive will be released on UK DVD on 8th June 2009 by DNC Entertainment at the RRP of £12.99. No extras have been listed. |
