The Machine Girl on DVD and Blu-ray in May

15 April 2009

Written and directed by Noboru Iguchi (Sukeban Boy) and starring former Japanese porn star Asami (also of Sukeban Boy) alongside up-and-coming newcomer Minase Yashiro, The Machine Girl (Kataude mashin gâru) is the grindhouse movie, we are assured, that Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez can only dream of making. Boasting more arterial spray than any gorehound could ever wish for, this fun celebration of gratuitous violence features everything from graphic, bloody dismemberment, decapitation, necrophilia and yakuza ninjas to chainsaw- and machine gun-wielding girls, a flying guillotine and – the showstopper of them all – a flesh ripping drill bra!

Having already lost both her parents to suicide after they were wrongly framed for murder, the life of high school girl Ami (Yashiro) is totally destroyed when a gang of bullies kill her younger brother and his friend. She tracks down the gang's ringleader only to discover he is the son and heir to a psychotic yakuza clan. Her quest for revenge initially finds her being captured, tortured and having her left arm severed by the head of the yakuza family, but she manages to escape with her life and seeks refuge with the parents of her brother's friend. A pair of skilled mechanics, they build Ami a custom-made machine gun to replace her arm and vow to help her avenge their respective loved ones' deaths with a non-stop orgy of violent retribution.

Described by Albert Lanier on Ain't It Cool News as "an achievement in gory cinema, a feast for fans of ultra violent pictures and a film that grabs one's lapel, aims its gun and blasts the hell out of one's face and head until all the skin, bones and brain matter are completely eliminated," The Machine Girl is an outrageous cartoon of a film, but one destined to find a place in many a grindhouse heart.

The Machine Girl (and in case you were still wondering, it will be an 18 certificate) will released by Cine Asia Extreme on 18th May 2009 and will be available to buy on DVD in Steelbook packaging for $14.99 and on Blu-ray for £15.99. Special features include a behind the scenes featurette and a trailer. Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 audio options are included.
