Argentinean revolutionary pin-up Ernesto "Che" Guevara has found himself in the cinematic limelight in recent years, with his pre-revolutionary days dramatised handsomely in director Walter Salles' 2004 film of Guevara's own The Motorcycle Diaries, and more recently as the subject of Steven Soderbergh's ambitious two-part film chronicling the adult life story of one of the most influential political figures of the twentieth century.
Part One, 'The Argentine', covers Guevara's partnership with Fidel Castro to lead a guerilla mission into Cuba and the subsequent struggle to control the island. Part Two, 'Guerilla', follows Guevara in subsequent years up until his capture and eventual execution. The two films together run for over four hours, and although natural companion pieces they also play well as stand-alone works. Both feature the considerable talents of Benicio Del Toro as Che Guevara in a role that netted him the Best Actor award at Cannes, and a Best Actor Goya award in Spain.
Che, Parts One & Two will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on 29th June 2009 by Optimum Home Entertainment at the RRP of £19.99 each for the DVD versions and £24.99 apiece for the Blu-ray. Both parts will also be available as two-film box set for the RRP of £29.99 for the DVD set and £34.99 for the Blu-ray.
