It's World War II during the Blitz, and Nutbourne School For Boys becomes scene of a hilarious battle of infuriated sexes as headmaster Wetherby Pond (Alastair Sim) learns that thanks to bureaucratic incompetence by the Ministry of Education, his sanctuary is to be invaded by a London girls' school and its formidable Headmistress: Muriel Whitchurch (Margaret Rutherford).
Based on John Dighton's popular stage play of the same name and with hilarious, standout performances by Sim and Rutherford, The Happiest Days Of Your Life was the unofficial precursor to the successful St Trinian's series, which were also helmed by this film's director, Frank Launder.
The Happiest Days Of Your Life will be getting its UK DVD premiere when it's released on 4th May by Optimum Home Entertainment at the RRP of £15.99. No extras, unfortunately. |
