Hector (Karra Elejalde) has just moved into his dream country home when the sight of what appears to be a nude woman lures him into the woods. Here he encounters a sinister figure whose head is wrapped in a grotesque, pink bandage. Fleeing in terror, he has inadvertently set in motion a brain-twisting, horrifying chain of events.
Spanish science fiction films are rare enough beasts, so it's nice that when one does appear it generates good word of mouth, with Variety enthusing that "Nacho Vigalondo's feature debut shows that good cinematic time travelers can be done on a shoestring with the right script" and Eye for Film remarking that "there are flashes of cleverness sparkling throughout."
Director Nacho Vigalondo was nominated for an Oscar for his live action short film 7.35 in the Morning and Timecrimes [Los Cronocrímenes], which has collected a few awards of its own, is soon to be remade in the English Language – no big surprises there – but David Cronenberg has been mooted as a possible director.
Timecrimes is to be released as a movie-only DVD in the UK on 4th May by Optimum Home Entertainment at the RRP of £15.99. |
