David Burke (Ed Begley, Sweet Bird of Youth, The Unsinkable Molly Brown) is a ruined man, a former cop disgraced for refusing to co-operate with state crime investigators. Hatching a plan for an elaborate bank heist, he approaches psychotic racist and ex-convict Earl Slater (Robert Ryan, The Wild Bunch, The Dirty Dozen) and black nightclub entertainer Johnny Ingram (Harry Belafonte, Bobby) with the promise of huge reward if they join him. As the tension of planning the robbery mounts, so to does the antagonism between the Slater and Ingram.
Written by Nelson Gidding (The Haunting, The Andromeda Strain) and Abraham Polonsky (Body and Soul, Force of Evil) and directed by industry legend Robert Wise, Odds Against Tomorrow is a taut and compelling film noir crossed with social commentary, and was apparently credited by Jean-Pierre Melville as being a formative influence on his work.
Odds Against Tomorrow will get its UK DVD premiere on 27th April by Optimum Home Entertainment at the RRP of £15.99. No extras have been listed. |
