Acting royalty Alan Bates, Helen Mirren, Malcolm McDowell and Laurence Olivier star in The Collection, a play by Nobel Prize–winning playwright Harold Pinter.
Set in the exclusive and prestigious world of West End boutique owners and fashion designers, the story takes, as its point of departure, the moment when the lives of four people are suddenly shaken by the slight whiff of infidelity. The sinister, anonymous phone call that disturbs Harry Kane at four o'clock in the morning is the pebble that causes the ripples and waves in a still pond. It also foreshadows the ominously deepening mystery in which the characters find themselves, and which seems to be threatening to get out of control as the drama progresses. It is also in this great ball of mystery that the 'truth', as such, becomes increasingly hard to establish and uncanny...
Apart from starring in this lavish play, Laurence Olivier also co-produces The Collection with the multi-award winning Michael Apted (7 – 49 UP, Enigma). This adaptation earned Apted a Director's Guild of America nomination for Outstanding Directorial Achievement.
