Red Riding Trilogy in April

10 March 2009

After a failed attempt to crack Fleet Street a cynical journalist returns to his homeland of Yorkshire and finds himself assigned to report on the case of a local girl who has gone missing. But after her bizarrely mutilated body is discovered he is thrown into a sleaze infested, nightmarish world of corruption. As the killer's identity remains a mystery, savage events spiral out of control, spanning generations and leading to a shocking climax.

Written by Tony Grisoni (Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, In This World) and directed by Julian Jarrold (Brideshead Revisited), James Marsh (Man on Wire) and Anand Tucker (Hilary & Jackie), Red Riding is a trilogy of films about the six year police investigation of William Sutcliffe, AKA the Yorkshire Ripper. Based on the novels by David Pearce – 1974, 1980 and 1983, the films star Sean Bean, Andrew Garfield, Paddy Considine, Warren Clarke, Peter Mullan, David Morrissey, Maxine Peake, Eddie Marsan, Gerard Kearns, Daniel Mays, Rebecca Hall and Mark Addy. Current still showing on Channel Four, the series has attracted considerable acclaim for its realistic portrait of a depressed north of the 1970s and 80s, being described by James Walton the The Telegraph as "a triumphantly unsettling antidote to everything bland and comfortable on television."
