100 Feet in March

14 January 2009

No, it's not a film about surveying or centipedes, but an allegedly chilling and claustrophobic supernatural thriller from director Eric Red, who long ago cut his horror credentials as the writer of The Hitcher (1986) and Near Dark (1987). The film takes an overexposed staple of the horror genre and turns it on its ear, weaving in elements elements of Panic Room, The Grudge and The Entity and featuring a strong central performance from Famke Janssen (Jean Grey in the X-Men movies).

A young woman, Marnie Watson (Jansen), is granted early release from her prison sentence for killing her abusive husband in an act of self defence, on condition she wear an electronic ankle bracelet and remain within her home. This effectively puts her under house arrest for the remainder of her sentence. It soon becomes apparent though that the 100 foot radius that Watson's ankle bracelet allows her isn't the worst of her problems. The spirit of her dead husband is still in the house where he died and is intent on savage revenge.

100 Feet has certainly found favour with the horror community and that's good enough to arouse our interest. It arrives on UK DVD on 2nd March 2009 from DNC Entertainment at the RRP of £12.99. No news of extra features or picture and sound options yet.
