The divergent paths of three adult siblings collide when their mother, heiress to her uncle's exceptional 19th century art collections, dies suddenly. Left to come to terms with themselves and their differences, Adrienne, a successful New York designer, Frederic, an economist and university professor in Paris, and Jeremie, a dynamic businessman in China, confront the end of childhood, their shared memories, background and unique visions of the future.
Starring Juliette Binoche and Charles Berling, Summer Hours (L'Heure d'été) is the most recent film from Olivier Assayas, director of Irma Vep (1996) and Fin août, début septembre (Late August, Early September, 1998), was described by Philip French in The Observer as "a quiet, carefully observed movie," by The Daily Telegraph as "one of the year's real gems," while George Williamson in his Eye for Film review noted that it contained "insightful comment on nostalgia, mortality, property and family."
Summer Hours will be released on UK DVD by Artificial Eye on 24th November 2008 at the RRP of £19.99. We've been unable to nail what the extra features will be, but on past experience we can expect an interview with Assayas running for – oh let's see – about 30 minutes? We'll update when we're sure. |
