No, not a typo on the Charles Laughton-directed classic from 1955 starring a 'love' and 'hate' tottooed Robert Mitchum, but the english title of La Nuit des traquées, a 1980 thriller from cult French horror director Jean Rollin.
A young hitch-hiker named Elysabeth (porn actress Brigitte Lahaie) attempts to escape from the confines of a cold, stark and bleak building in which the inhabitants seem to be suffering from a collective amnesia and insanity. Far removed from the vampire movies with which Rollin is more frequently associated, The Night of the Hunted nonetheless includes plenty of the director's trademark nudity and is one just one component (violence is another, of course) in a semi-surreal nightmare that has been compared to David Cronenberg's Shivers for its tone and themes.
The Night of the Hunted is to be released on UK DVD by Redemption on 27th October 2008 at the RRP of £12.99. Extra features will include:
- Exclusive Jean Rollin interview;
- Stills gallery;
- 2 deleted scenes.
