Gun is the sort of direct title that always gets us interested, and if it takes more than that then the concept of a single handgun being the uniting feature of six different stories in which it is essentially the lead character should. Add to the mix that this is not a feature but six separate one-hour episodes of a short-lived anthology TV series from 1997, that the series was co-executive produced by Robert Altman and that the six episodes were directed by the likes of Altman himself, Ted Demme and James Foley and you should be at least a little curious. Well how about a cast that includes James Gandolfini, Rosanna Arquette, Daryl Hannah, Sally Kellerman, Randy Quaid, Jennifer Tilly, Sean Young, Kathy Baker, Ed Begley Jr., Bud Cort, Ted Demme, Carrie Fisher, Edward James Olmos, Martin Sheen, Fred Ward and Wil Wheaton? Worth a look, d'you think?
Well the chance will come for UK viewers on 20th October 2008 when all six films of the series are released on a double-disc DVD by 4 Digital Media at the most reasonable price of £12.99. Unsurprisingly the marketing and packaging is based around the gun in question - what is surprising, given its subject matter and the current climate of weapon-related paranoia, is that it will have a 12 certificate. Not details of extra features are available as yet, but you can find a link to a trailer for the Columbus Day episode here. |
