Zombie movie are back in vogue, it would seem, or at least in horror movie circles, inspired in part no doubt by by the news that Romero was returning to the genre he once ruled, this time with the camcorder horror Diary of the Dead. Add to the list Days of Darkness, a hit at LA's 2007 Screamfest and the debut feature from British expatriate Jake Kennedy.

The morning after an apparently harmless comet hits the earth, lovers Steve (Travis Brorsen) and Mimi (Roshelle Pattison) are heading home after a night camped out at the top of Topanga Canyon when Steve is attacked and seriously bitten by a man staggering along the road. Moments later, as several more zombie-like people appear, the couple is rescued by Simon (Chris Ivan Cevic), who leads them to a remote, concrete bunker in a fenced off compound hidden in the hills. Inside the compound are nine others, amongst them a former porn star (Marian Tomas Griffin) and her teenage daughter (Ashley Elizabeth Pierce), a couple of car salesmen (Bryan Rasmussen and Eric Stuart), a crazed Bible basher (John Lee Ames) and his sick brother (William Cannon), and a trigger-happy misanthropist (Tom Eplin). Outside are countless more people like those Steve and Mimi encountered on the road – undead human flesheaters intent on breaking through the perimeter fence and feeding on the last of the living. As night falls, the small group of human survivors – some sick, some dying and some slowly going mad – must overcome their differences and band together to fend off the grisly man-eaters in a last stand between the living and the dead.
Just another zombie movie of something worth checking out? Well it's found favour in the right circles, with Fangoria describing it as "confident and visually impressive show reel that should permit the filmmaker to navigate onto more extravagantly financed projects."
If you want to check it out for yourself you can do so on 20th October when it's released on UK DVD by Revolver at the RRP of £12.99. No news on technical specs yet, and the disc looks like a movie-only affair.
