The Horse's Mouth in October

30 July 2008

Directed by Ronald Neame and scripted by Alec Guinness from Joyce Cary's classic novel, The Horse's Mouth features Guinness the actor as of cinema's most indelible comic figures: the somewhat vulgar but dedicated painter in search of his artistic vision, Gulley Jimson. As the ill-behaved Jimson searches for a perfect canvas, he determines to let nothing come between himself and the realization of his exalted vision. A perceptive examination of the struggle of artistic creation, The Horse's Mouth is also Neame's comic masterpiece.

Guinness's screenplay landed him both an Oscar and a BAFTA nomination, while he landed the prize for Best Actor at the 1958 Venice Film Festival and the film itself was nominated for the Golden Lion, while co-star Kay Walsh also bagged a BAFTA nomination and a Best Supporting Actress win in America's National Board of Review awards.

The Horse's Mouth will be released for the very first time on DVD in the UK on 20th October 2008 by Eureka Entertainment at the RRP of £15.99. This will be a movie-only disc.
