How many still-working Hollywood directors can still get labeled controversial at 68? Just when Brian De Palma seems to have gone quiet he comes up with a movie like Redacted, a smack-in-the-face indictment of America's involvement in Iraq and its effect on both the local populace and the serving soldiers. A fictionalised account of a true story in which an Iraqui girl was gang raped by a group of American soldiers, Redacted is as much about the medium as the message, with the incident recounted through a variety of sources, including excerpts from a (fictional) documentary, CCTV, internet blogs, news material and camcorder footage shot by one of the soldiers. The result is as provocative as it is shocking and has found few friends on De Palma's home turf, enhancing his reputation as the enfant terrible of the movie brat generation.
Redacted will be released on UK DVD by Optimum on 21st July 2008 at the RRP of £15.99 with a 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer and the following special features:
- Higher Definition: Interview with Director, Brian De Palma;
- Refugee Interviews;
- Photo Gallery.
