Shades of The Sixth Sense and The Shining haunt Lee Soon-youn's The Uninvited (4 Inyong shiktak), a slow burning but gripping thriller with supernatural overtones.
Jeong-won is a man with no memory of his childhood, and yet, when he witnesses the murder of two young girls, he keeps seeing their ghosts. When he meets the narcoleptic Yeon, he discovers she is also a psychic who can see the spirits too. She becomes the key to unlocking those lost memories, but is he prepared to face what he finds?
Director Lee Su-Jeon Lee takes a more psychological approach to ghosts, exploring the way that trauma victims try to deal with events, often not coping. Her unusual use of sound and complex narrative make it a challenging film about family and trust, echoing similar themes from Memento Mori. A haunting thriller that sure to possess your waking dreams.
The Uninvited has been announced for a UK DVD release on 28th July 2008 by Tartan at the RRP of £15.99 with an anamorphic widescreen picture and Dolby 5.1 surround sound. No extras have been listed. |
