If you find the idea of a Lars von Trier comedy unlikely then you're not the only one, and there's a band of von Trier haters out there who will doubtless sit stony-faced throughout any such venture, if they could be persuaded to see it in the first place, of course. And yet The Boss of it All has attracted its share of positive reviews, The Times describing it as "a smart and witty fish-out-of-water parable" and assures us that "the screwball narrative delivers delicious pay-offs." Screwball narrative? Lars von Trier? THE Lars von Trier. Speaking personally, I am, at the very least, intrigued.
The story revolves around seedy company owner Ravn, who has invented a character known as "The Boss of it All" to take responsibility for unpopular decisions. When he decides to sell the company the buyers insist on dealing with the Boss, and so Ravn decides to hire an actor to play the role. What could possibly go wrong?
Find out for yourself on 23rd June when The Boss of it All is released on UK DVD by Diffusion Pictures at the RRP of £15.99. The disc will sport a widescreen letterboxed transfer and Dolby 2.0 sound, plus the following extra features:
- Behind-the-scenes interviews;
- Notes on Automavision;
- Still gallery;
- Short film - Sickie.
