Kim Sun-woo works as a hotel manager but he's also the ruthlessly efficient right-hand man of top underworld boss, Kang. However, Kang has a beautiful girlfriend Hee-soo and his jealousy leads him suspect her of having an affair. Sun-woo is assigned to investigate and report back his findings but finds himself falling under Hee-soo's spell, and an act of compassion enrages Kang and sees Sun-woo on the run from both his enemies and his former friends and colleagues.
The most recent work from Kim Ji-woon, director of the acclaimed A Tale of Two Sisters (Janghwa, Hongryeon, and the Hollywood remake of that one is already on the way), A Bittersweet Life (Dalkomhan insaeng) is a violent and stylish gangland thriller with echoes of Scorsese, Tarantino and De Palma but uniquely Korean in its storytelling and characters.
