Following the success in Korea of his smash-hit comedy Flower Island (Ggot seom), director Il-gon Song, moved into darker territory with Spider Forest (Geomi sup), a psychological thriller with overtones of East European folklore. leads him into the darker territory of psychological thriller. With a cast that includes Gam Woo-Sung and Pak Won-Sang (both from R-Point) and the hauntingly beautiful Suh Jung (The Isle/Seom), Spider Forest is a challenging film which plays more with mystery than horror, creating a sense of intrigue, mixing narrative elements of Memento with the more aesthetic techniques of Eastern European directors such as Kieslowski or Tarkovsky. An adult fairy tale of compassion and deeper meaning, tinged with sadness and combining dreams with memories and as enigmatic as Ji-woon Kim's A Tale of Two Sisters (Janghwa, Hongryeon).
Spider Forest has been announced for UK DVD release on 23rd June 2008 by Tartan at the RRP of £14.99. An anamorphic widescreen picture and choice of Dolby 2.0 stereo, Dolby 5.1 surround and DTS 5.1 surround will be joined by a trailer only. |
