One of those films that splits opinion like a well-aimed logging axe, Koen Mortier's 2007 Ex Drummer was described by Catherine Chambers on the BBC web site as "insufferably dire" and Peter Bradshaw in The Guardian as "frequently brilliant," opposing views that have been reflected in the equally polarised audience response.
Three drug-addicted punk rock misfits are looking for a drummer for their band The Feminists and attempt to recruit well-known writer Dries, whose inability to actually play the instrument in question appeals to the band's punk sensibilities. Fascinated by these dysfunctional characters, Dries joins the band, but his arrival awakens a number of latent personal disputes and family feuds within the group. Ex Drummer is a deliberately shocking, hardcore and blood-spattered depiction of small time rock musicians who are losing the plot instead of living the dream.
Ex Drummer has been confirmed for UK DVD release on 25th February by Tartan at the RRP of £19.99. Featuring an anamorphic widescreen transfer and optional Dolby stereo 2.0 and surround 5.1 soundtracks, the disc will also have the following extras:
- Making-of documentary (31:38);
- Original Trailer (1:41);
- Music Video for The Feminists by Millionaire (2:51);
- Overdo Hykers - the band that never made the film (2:07);
- Flip Kowlier music video (2:58).
