Reprise in February

4 February 2008

There's always something thrilling when a new director's first feature just clicks, something for reasons you can't immediately put your finger on. Such is apparently the case for Joachim Trier's debut feature, Reprise, which has been attracting plaudits and a fistful of awards ever since its release and was described in The Guardian as "form and content in perfect harmony." High praise indeed.

Best friends, Phillip and Erik share a love of punk, girls and parties. They also share a dream of getting published and becoming famous authors. But neither could predict the consequences of striving to achieve their ambition. A stylish, sexy and funny story about growing up, Reprise features a seriously impressive soundtrack that includes tracks by Joy Division and New Order and is driven by youthful energy.

The film was the Norwegian Oscar Entry for 2007 and was recently been nominated for the European Film Awards, People's Choice prize alongside 11 other films (including The Queen, The Last King of Scotland and 2 Days in Paris). Awards include the Diesel Discovery Award (Toronto), Best Director & Don Quixote Awards (Karlovy Vary) and the Young Jury Award (Rotterdam).

Soon you'll have the chance to judge for yourself when the film is released on UK DVD by Diffusion Pictures on 25th February 2008 at the RRP of £15.99. Sporting an anamorphic 1.85:1 picture and Dolby 2.0 stereo soundtrack, the disc also has the following extra features:

  • Director's Notes;
  • Stills & Artwork Gallery;
  • Original Trailer;
  • Diffusion Shorts presents PROCTER (Joachim Trier's award winning short, available in the UK for the first time).

And yes, in case you're wondering, Trier is apparently a distant cousin of Dogme king Lars von Trier.
