Tartan Video have announced the following three films for a March 2008 release on UK DVD. Technical specs and some of the extras are awaiting confirmation. Box artwork will be added later.
Silent Light (Stellet licht)
The latest film from Japón and Battle in Heaven director Carlos Reygadas tells the story of a forbidden love affair in a religious rural community and focuses on Johan, a married man who falls in love with another woman, feelings that go against his traditional beliefs and the laws of his faith. A mesmerising and moving film of considerable maturity, Silent Light is played out against the pastoral backdrop of the North Mexican Mennonite community and was described by Peter Bradshaw in The Guardian as "Beautiful and gripping, Carlos Reygadas's story of a love triangle leaves an indelible image on the mind."
Back to Normandy (Retour en Normandie)
The latest documentary work from Nicholas Philibert, director of the enchanting Être et avoir, looks back at a project on which he was assistant director some thirty years earlier, René Allio's 1975 film, Moi, Pierre Rivière Ayant Égorgé Ma Mère, Ma Soeur et Mon Frère, a dramatised version of a true life local homicide case. Philibert tracks down many of the villagers who appeared in the original film, each of whom has a story to tell about their experience working on the film, providing a series of character studies that offer a window into French rural community life. The Tartan DVD will include an interview with director Nicholas Philibert (to be confirmed).
I, Pierre Riviere (Moi, Pierre Rivière Ayant Égorgé Ma Mère, Ma Soeur et Mon Frère)
To coincide with the DVD release of Back to Normandy, Tartan are also to release the 1975 film that inspired Nicholas Philibert to return to his filmic roots. A tragic tale of a vengeful farmer's son who murdered his family, claiming it was God's judgement, only to write his confessional memoirs whilst in jail before ending his own life. A cast of local villagers enact the events from 150 years before.
All three films will be released by Tartan Video on 24th March 2008 at the RRP of £19.99 each. |
